Hermit’s Notes – Entry #1

What We’re Building Out Here (And Why It Matters)

There’s a different pace up here.

If you’ve spent any real time in Northern Maine, you know exactly what I mean.
Things don’t move fast… but they move with purpose.

You don’t build something overnight in the Northwoods.
You build it piece by piece. Season by season. Storm by storm.

And that’s exactly what we’re doing with Shady Ridge Studios.

This Isn’t Just a Marketing Company

There are plenty of agencies out there.

Websites. SEO. Ads. Funnels.
All of it packaged, templated, and sold the same way.

That’s not what this is.

Shady Ridge Studios is being built as a local-first digital system
something designed specifically for places like Aroostook County.

Places where:

  • Businesses rely on reputation more than reviews
  • Word of mouth still matters
  • And most people don’t have time to “figure out marketing”

We’re not here to complicate things.

We’re here to make it work.

The Problem We Kept Seeing

Drive Route 1 long enough, you start noticing patterns.

Good businesses…
Hard-working people…
Places that should be busy — but aren’t.

Not because they’re bad.

Because they’re invisible.

No clear website
No real presence
No system to capture attention or turn it into customers

Meanwhile, traffic is literally passing by every day.

That disconnect —
between people already traveling through the area
and businesses that could serve them
that’s the gap we’re building this to fix.

What We’re Actually Building

At its core, this is simple:

We’re building a system that helps local businesses:

  • Get found
  • Be understood quickly
  • Give people a reason to stop
  • And make it easy to take action

That includes:

  • Clean, mobile-first websites
  • SEO structures that actually match how people search
  • Local directories and discovery systems
  • Simple automation so leads don’t get lost
  • And real-world marketing (mailers, magnets, in-store visibility)

Not theory.

Not fluff.

Just practical tools that connect attention → to action → to revenue.

Why the “Hermit”

Because a lot of this thinking doesn’t come from sitting in an office.

It comes from:

  • Walking the land
  • Running the course
  • Talking to people face-to-face
  • Watching what actually works (and what doesn’t)

The Hermit isn’t about isolation.

It’s about clarity.

Stripping things down to what matters and building from there.

No noise.
No trend-chasing.
No pretending.

Just real observations… and real solutions.

The Bigger Vision

This starts with Shady Ridge Studios.

But it doesn’t stop there.

The long-term vision is bigger:

  • A connected network of local businesses
  • A system that captures and redirects tourism flow
  • Opportunities for students to learn real-world skills
  • A platform that helps small towns compete again

Not by trying to become something they’re not…

…but by doubling down on what makes them strong in the first place.

If You’re Reading This

You’re early.

This is the ground floor.

Right now, we’re building:

  • The systems
  • The structure
  • The first wave of businesses

If you’re a business owner in the County —
or someone who sees what’s happening here —

You’re exactly who this is for.

Final Thought

Up here, things don’t spread because of ads.

They spread because they work.

That’s the standard.

And that’s what we’re building toward.
